Hi John,
Wow - what a weekend we’ve just had as a party.
I can still feel the buzz from the Conference Hall yesterday as we heard from Ed in his Leader’s Speech. Whether you were in the Hall with us, watching from home or have seen clips online or on the news, I am sure you felt it too.
It was a moving and inspiring speech on values very close to all our hearts - public service, community, compassion, fairness, internationalism and beating the Conservatives (and Labour) of course!
One of our members told us yesterday that Ed’s speech made them realise once again why they are a Liberal Democrat, and it made them feel even more proud to be one.
John, that’s what Conference is all about.
Not only do we pass fantastic policy motions, have spirited debates, catch up with old friends, meet new friends, learn from each other and celebrate each other’s wins - ultimately it helps invigorate the fire that burns within all of us.
It’s a rallying call to arms to get out there, spread our liberal message and recruit new members and supporters.
It helps us get more Liberal Democrat votes in the ballot box at elections, more Liberal Democrats elected, and more Liberal Democrats making positive changes for the people of this great United Kingdom, and beyond.
I think this weekend will help us do all of those things.
Just look at this outstanding editorial piece from the Guardian yesterday - the media are waking up to the fact that the Liberal Democrats are the key to ousting the Conservatives. | | John, we know we can make major gains at the upcoming local and general elections, particularly taking seats from the Conservatives. And the media know it too.
But even better, the Conservatives know it - and they are worried about it.
Now it is our job to get out on the doorstep and remind voters that we can do it too.
Share that Guardian article with them, share the video of Ed’s speech with them (you can watch it back, or read it, here).
Let them know that we are ready to fight for them.
For Liberal Britain.
John, I am so excited about the future of the Liberal Democrats, aren’t you? | | | Best wishes, Tim Farron MP Liberal Democrats | | | | | |
