California is transforming San Quentin – the state’s most notorious prison with a dark past – into the nation’s most innovative rehabilitation facility focused on building a brighter and safer future.

SF Chronicle: 'Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office announced Thursday that he plans to transform San Quentin State Prison from a max security prison into a rehabilitation and education facility that will focus on preparing inmates for their transition back into civilian life.' LA Times: 'Visiting California’s oldest prison, Gov. Gavin Newsom on Friday touted a plan to overhaul the facility in favor of a rehabilitation-centered approach that could become a model for the world.'

In California, we are using every tool in our toolbox – including the largest-ever deployment of small homes in the state – to move people off the streets and into housing.

Gavin Newsom: 'NEW: I am enlisting the National Guard to help deploy 1200 small homes across four counties in our state to help immediately get more folks off our streets and into the housing they need.'
