Dear John,
This year is off to a flying start with our new climate solutions
strategy, and everyone here at 350.org is fully focused on powering and
scaling up a transition to renewable energy rooted in justice.
Thanks to the support of our amazing climate movement, we've been able to
kick off our solutions campaign with a bang. So now, I'd love to take some
time to update you on the projects we're working on:

EACOP
We are keeping up the work with groups and climate leaders in East Africa
to call for an end to the proposed East African Crude Oil Pipeline
(EACOP). The pipeline would be the longest heated crude oil pipeline in
the world, and it poses huge social, environmental, and economic risks to
communities, wildlife and ecosystems in Uganda and Tanzania.
Recently, we were part of a global day of action that spread across
Kampala, Kinshasa, Hoima, Nairobi, Goma, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Paris,
London, Brussels, Tokyo, Sendai, Fukuoka, Nagoya, New York, Toronto,
Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Vancouver and Frankfurt, to demand that EACOP's
financial backers rule out support for the project. All over the world,
we'll continue to stand with the people of Uganda and Tanzania to
#stopEACOP.

Green New Eskom in South Africa
South Africa is facing an energy crisis. Its state-owned power company,
Eskom, has significant debt, old infrastructure, and relies heavily on
coal energy. Not only have they caused an escalating power shortage, but
they're polluting South African air and water in the process.
The Green New Eskom campaign is led by the Climate Justice Coalition — a
coalition of South African civil society, grassroots, trade union, and
community-based organizations — and is calling for a rapid and just
transition to a more socially owned, renewable energy-powered economy. The
goal is a new energy system that provides clean, safe, and affordable
energy for all, with no worker or community left behind in the transition.

A Just Transition in Canada
Three years ago, Trudeau promised a just transition to renewable energy,
and since then, our movement has kept up the pressure on the Canadian
government to deliver legislation that confronts the devastating impacts
of the climate crisis and supports workers and communities in a rapid
shift to a green economy.
And just last month, 350 Canada celebrated a massive victory! The
government released its long-awaited just transition plan — the
Sustainable Jobs Plan. It is just a plan, and it's not perfect, but it
shows that our people-powered pressure is working. We're going to kick
things up a notch in the coming months, pushing for Parliament to back
this plan with bold legislation and historic green investments.

Coal Free Economy in Turkey
The Milas region is considered Turkey's capital of olives and olive oil,
and its residents have been cultivating olives for four thousand years.
But for the past 40 years, two power plants have been allowed to poison
Milas, and coal mining activities have been destroying the livelihoods of
the people in the region.
In collaboration with Milas City Council and Climate Action Network
Europe, 350 Turkey just released a new report which shows the benefits of
investing in olive production instead of a coal-dependent economy. We are
committed to supporting the people of Milas in their fight to resist coal
expansion, and to protect the past, the present, and the future of the
region.

I should probably stop there, for the sake of keeping this email at a
reasonable length. But I'm really happy to say that we have so many more
solutions-oriented campaigns in the works!
That's actually what I think is so great about this solutions work we're
doing — there are ENDLESS opportunities for projects and campaigns that
will help usher in a new era of sustainable, clean energy for all.
So stay tuned for more updates on our solutions campaigning and things you
can do to support our work — both big and small.
And if you are able, the truth is that [ [link removed] ]the single most important action
you can take right now to help us achieve an energy transition rooted in
justice is to make a contribution.
