DEVELOPING… in the midst of the impeachment trial this past week, the Trump administration officially finalized a rule to strip clean water safeguards for small streams and wetlands all over the country.
It will mean property developers can dump pollutants into waterways and fill in critical wetlands for construction projects. These protections have been in place for decades and this rule puts our drinking water at huge risk of contamination.
This change will be implemented in 60 days. Environmental groups and state attorneys general are organizing legal challenges. We're mobilizing to flood House and Senate offices with letters. We're organizing activists in key states.
This could be one of the most important environmental fights of 2020 — and we need your help.
A major donor has put up a $500,000 contribution to fund environmental campaigns like this one — if 10,000 LCV members pitch in first before January 31.
Right now, we're not on track to get there. If everyone reading this right now pitched in — even small donations —
we'd blow through that goal in minutes.

Friend: In reaching that goal, small donations count the same as big ones. Renewing your membership for just $5 could make the difference between funding some major environmental campaigns this year, or totally scaling back.
AND, if you make a donation of $35 or more, you'll get your choice of one of these awesome t-shirts to show your environmental pride:
We're going into 2020 facing some of the most important environmental fights in years. Trump also just gutted the National Environmental Policy Act — the law that requires federal agencies to allow the public to have a say in major federal projects.
We're also facing down a vote in Congress that could save the Boundary Waters Wilderness Area — the most-visited wilderness in the country — from copper mining. And we're also pushing hard for a vote in the Senate to finally rein in dangerous PFAS chemicals (also known as "forever chemicals"). These are fights that could still swing either way — they have bipartisan support, but it's going to take a major push from the environmental movement to get them passed.
Bottom line, if we don't hit our goal, it means we need to scale back at a time when critical environmental decisions are being made.
ANYTHING you can give will help in a huge way. Here's where things stand right now:
2020 JANUARY MEMBERSHIP DRIVE
- GOAL: 10,000 donations
- PROGRESS: 80% to goal
A donor will give $500,000 if we meet our goal.
