Advocacy Update

The Arlington County Board adopted amendments to the Zoning Ordinance at their Saturday meeting permitting the creation of medical and dental laboratories, flexible research spaces, and audio-visual broadcasting spaces in commercial buildings. The Chamber strongly supported these amendments, which are part of the Commercial Market Resiliency Initiative. The Initiative is a welcomed part of reimagining the Zoning Ordinance to reflect the businesses of the 21st century and make Arlington more nimble in attracting businesses in sectors that did not exist when the Zoning Ordinance was first written.

Additionally, the Board heard public speakers regarding the Missing Middle Housing Ordinance. The Board will meet Tuesday evening to move towards a final vote on the ordinance. The Chamber is supportive of the overall goals of the Ordinance, and gave testimony urging the Board not to adopt an annual cap on the number of permits, as we are concerned by the potential negative effects on development.
