Breaking news, John —

The governor of Idaho has signed a new, restrictive voter ID law, specifically targeting student voters. With this new law, starting in 2024 Idaho will accept IDs for voting in person such as a license to carry a concealed weapon, but will NOT accept a student ID.

Young voters are the future of our democracy. It’s important to encourage their participation in each and every election, and creating additional barriers like these makes it harder for them to cast a ballot.

VoteRiders is rapidly mobilizing to ensure student voters in Idaho and across the country have the information and ID they need to cast a ballot that counts. Can you share our student ID resources page to ensure every student knows what ID they can use to vote?

The rules around student ID and voter ID are complicated, confusing, and change frequently. Idaho is one of many states that have recently made it harder for young people to cast a ballot by passing stricter voter ID laws. VoteRiders is committed to empowering youth and students across all of our work. And now we’ve got even more work to do.

VoteRiders has extensive and specialized voter ID resources for students on our website, and our voter outreach efforts center young voters — especially young voters of color — in locations across the country with high student populations.

With this new law, we’ll need to direct additional resources into our steady drumbeat of outreach and assistance to students nationwide to ensure they have what they need to vote.

You can help by sharing our student resources with any young voters you know. >> [link removed]

Thank you for all that you do,

P.S. States are passing restrictive voter ID laws at a rapid pace, and we need to keep up. We’re diverting additional resources to do extensive outreach and education to student voters in the wake of new laws like this one in Idaho.
