This and other efforts by some politicians are an attempt to change the rules and make it harder for eligible voters – especially seniors, rural voters, and BIPOC Mainers – to exercise their freedom to vote. They want to remove every voter from the voter rolls and make them register again every four years, turn away voters from the polls who can't repeatedly produce certain photo identification, and now even ban towns from choosing to have absentee ballot drop boxes!
At Maine Conservation Voters we believe that the fundamental right to vote should never come with barriers that make it more difficult, if not impossible, for some Mainers to make their voices heard. Maine laws like same-day voter registration, absentee voting, and allowing municipalities to use ballot drop boxes ensure eligible Mainers can cast their ballot in a safe, secure way that works best for them. Please add your name to keep ballot drop boxes in Maine. Thank you for taking action to protect Maine’s democracy, |
