Lawyer Robert Costello to Testify Against Michael Cohen’s Credibility in Trump Investigation

A leak late last week stated they were preparing to arrest Trump this week. Associated Press: A lawyer who previously advised Michael Cohen, the key government witness in the hush money payment investigation into Donald Trump, has been invited to appear Monday before a Manhattan grand jury that is considering potential charges against the former president, according to a person familiar with the matter. Robert Costello had advised Cohen and is prepared to offer testimony to the grand jury attacking the credibility of Cohen’s statements. Costello had contacted a lawyer for Trump saying that he had information that contradicted Cohen’s current statements and that could be exculpatory for Trump (Associated Press). Daily Wire: The case involves an alleged payment that Cohen admits he made to Daniels during the presidential race to keep quiet about an alleged 2006 tryst between Trump and Daniels. Although non-disclosure agreements are legal, the potential problem for Trump centers around how his company reimbursed Cohen. The payment was listed as a legal expense and the company cited a retainer agreement with Cohen. The retainer agreement did not exist and the reimbursement was not related to any legal services from Cohen, thus setting up a potential misdemeanor criminal charge of falsifying business records. The report said that Trump personally signed several of the checks to Cohen while he was serving as president. Prosecutors can elevate the misdemeanor to a felony if they can prove that Trump’s “‘intent to defraud’ included an intent to commit or conceal a second crime” (Daily Wire).

ICC Issues Arrest Warrant for President Putin
Associated Press: The International Criminal Court said Friday that it has issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin for war crimes, accusing him of personal responsibility for the abductions of children from Ukraine. It was the first time the global court has issued a warrant against a leader of one of the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council. Its practical implications, however, could be limited as the chances of Putin facing trial at the ICC are highly unlikely because Moscow does not recognize the court’s jurisdiction or extradite its nationals (Associated Press). Charlie Kirk: The International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin for war crimes (Twitter).

DEI Director Harassed, Bullied for Being Equal to All Races
Daily Wire: The director of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) at a California college said she was “harassed and bullied” out of her job because she wanted to consider the perspectives of people from all races equally. Dr. Tabia Lee, who is black, told The New York Post that faculty at De Anza College in Cupertino, California, labeled her a “white supremacist” after she pushed to “create safe spaces for everyone.” Lee said that during her review for tenure, she was denied and will be out of a job on June 15.  On one occasion, Lee said she questioned why school communications capitalized “Black” but not “white.” She pointed to recommendations from the National Association of Black Journalists, which advises that all racial groups should be capitalized. “For that, I was accused of being a white supremacist,” she said. “These constant accusations of calling people racist or calling them a white supremacists or saying that they’re aligned with right wingers — that’s such ridiculousness. It’s very damaging” (Daily Wire). New York Post: When she tried to help streamline staff communications by creating a Google Doc system, she said she was accused by a colleague of “white-splaining” — a term used to describe when white people patronizingly explain things to people of color — and of supporting white supremacy (New York Post).

Elizabeth Warren Demands Fed Chair Jerome Powell be Replaced
Daily Wire: Massachusetts Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren called for a new Federal Reserve Chairman on Sunday as she lashed out at Jerome Powell’s job performance. Appearing on several Sunday talk shows, Warren accused Powell of taking a “flamethrower” to regulations on big banks and failing to control inflation. In the wake of the Silicon Valley Bank collapse, Warren called for the Federal Reserve and Congress to impose more regulations. She also said that Powell should not be chairman of the Fed (Daily Wire). Face the Nation: “We need accountability for our regulators who clearly fell down on the job,” SenWarren tells margbrennan on the Silicon Valley Bank collapse, adding that it “starts with” Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, who she says “was a dangerous man to have in this position” (Twitter). NBC: President Joe Biden renominated Powell as Federal Reserve chairman in Nov. 2021. The decision was met with pushback from some progressives and certain Democrats had argued that Powell was too hands-off as a banking regulator. Around that time, Warren was a leading opponent of Powell, calling him a “dangerous man” who had led an effort to weaken the nation’s banking system at a hearing in late 2021 (NBC).

Mexican President Patronizes US on Drug Policy
Townhall: Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador blames America’s rampant fentanyl crisis on a “lack of love.” During a news conference, Lopez Obrador claimed the deadly China-produced drug is taking over hundreds of thousands of American households because parents don’t hug their children enough. Last year, over 10,000 pounds of fentanyl powder was found in the U.S., taking the lives of 700,000 Americans. The president repeatedly said that people in his country don’t consume the drug, attributing it to Mexico’s close-knit family values. He also called U.S. drug policies a failure (Townhall). DEA: Mexico and China are the primary source countries for fentanyl and fentanyl-related substances trafficked directly into the United States (DEA). Associated Press: U.S. authorities estimate that most illegal fentanyl is produced in clandestine Mexican labs using Chinese precursor chemicals. Most illegal fentanyl is pressed by Mexican cartels into counterfeit pills made to look like other medications like Xanax, oxycodone or Percocet (Associated Press).

Wyoming Governor Signs Abortion Pill Ban Bill
Washington Examiner: Gov. Mark Gordon (R-WY) signed a bill on Friday that bans access to abortion pills and allowed a different bill that restricts abortions to go into effect. The new law claims that it will be “unlawful to prescribe, dispense, distribute, sell or use any drug for the purpose of procuring or performing an abortion.” Breaking the new law, which will go into effect in July, is punishable by up to six months in prison and a fine of up to $9,000 (Washington Examiner). Hill: The law seeks to replace a trigger abortion ban that went into effect after Roe was overturned but has been put on pause by the courts amid lawsuits arguing it violates the state constitution (Hill).

Sam Bankman-Fried Tried to Sway Regulator to Pass Friendly Legislation to Help Firm Just Before Collapse
Washington Examiner: Disgraced ex-cryptocurrency kingpin Sam Bankman Fried and his since-bankrupt company FTX scored a meeting with a top regulator and sought to sway them to adopt industry-friendly rules months before the exchange’s historic collapse, emails show. In May 2022, FTX pitched the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation on why it was apparently poised to be a “superior” cryptocurrency exchange and was swiftly granted a meeting with its chairman, Martin Gruenberg. FTX was on a lobbying spree to gain influence in Washington before its November 2022 collapse (Washington Examiner). Gabe Kaminsky: Sam Bankman-Fried scored a meeting with the FDIC’s chairman months before the collapse of FTX, seeking to sway the regulator to adopt industry-friendly rules that would pave the way for FTX to be the “superior” crypto exchange (Twitter).

Two of Europe’s Largest Banks Agree to Terms to Avoid Financial Catastrophe
Washington Post: Credit Suisse, the battered Swiss banking giant, has agreed to a takeover by Switzerland’s largest bank, UBS — a move aimed at staving off immediate concerns of a disorderly bankruptcy and stemming panic about global financial turmoil. UBS has agreed to buy Credit Suisse in an emergency deal that ties up two of Europe’s largest banks, Swiss authorities announced Sunday. Swiss authorities are planning to speed up the process by circumventing laws that would require a shareholder vote (Washington Post). Financial Times: The government is preparing emergency measures to fast-track the takeover and plans to introduce legislation that will bypass the normal six-week consultation period required for UBS shareholders so the deal can be sealed immediately, the people said (Financial Times).

Louisiana Democrat Switches Party to Give Republicans Supermajority in House for First Time in State’s History
WAFB: The Republican Party has gained the supermajority for the Louisiana House after longtime Democratic lawmaker switched parties after nearly 50 years. Rep. Francis Thompson served as a Democratic lawmaker in Northeast Louisiana for almost 50 years and changed his party registration on Friday, March 17. Thompson becomes the 70th Republican member in the state house. The GOP already had a supermajority in the state Senate (WAFB). Daily Wire: This is the first time Republican lawmakers in the state have had such an advantage in Louisiana’s roughly 210-year history. Thompson, 81, insisted that “nothing” has changed in his values, though he acknowledged having a “conservative” voting record (Daily Wire).

CNN Crew Robbed in San Francisco While Reporting on City Crime Spikes
Townhall: A CNN crew was robbed in San Francisco while reporting the city’s rampant crime problem. CNN correspondent Kyung Lah detailed how the crew’s rental car was vandalized and their bags stolen, which contained their driver’s licenses and passports, while she was conducting an interview for the network. Lah said that their security guard “tried to grab the crooks” but had to resort to just taking a photo of the license plate of the criminal’s getaway car (Townhall). CNN Reporter Kyung Lah: Got robbed. Again. jasonkCNN & I were at city hall in San Francisco to do an interview for CNN. We had security to watch our rental car + crew car. Thieves did this in under 4 seconds. Security stopped the jerks from stealing other bags. But seriously- this is ridiculous (Twitter). New York Post: The progressive city has been experiencing surging crime, open-air drug dealing and robberies over the last few years, which led to the recall of soft-on-crime District Attorney Chesa Boudin last June. Though overall crime has slightly decreased in the first three months of 2023 compared to the same timeframe last year, robberies continue to climb — there have been 525 reported robberies in San Francisco since Jan. 1 (New York Post).
