A busy little beaver is hard at work gathering branches, rocks, and mud to build a dam that will serve as a safe beaver lodge to live in. Going about business carrying supplies back to the pond, the helpless beaver suddenly cries out in excruciating pain!
The poor animal’s tiny limbs have been caught in a steel-jaw leghold trap clamped together with bone-breaking force, left to suffer in agony before cruel hunters come to collect their prize.
Across America’s wetlands, harmless beavers are being VICIOUSLY MURDERED like this -- all so that hunters can profit from their fur, meat, and castoreum (a natural beaver secretion used to make perfume and food flavoring.)
Beavers are more than just adorable buck-toothed animals, but this fuzz creature plays an ESSENTIAL role in maintaining healthy wetland ecosystems, fighting drought, and mitigating climate change. We’re calling on the Biden Administration to issue an emergency executive order to PROTECT this critical keystone species before they’re wiped out. But if we’re going to SAVE vulnerable beavers, we urgently need 2,107 more environmentalists like you to sign our petition by 11:59 PM TONIGHT. Add your name to STOP beaver trapping and hunting on public lands NOW! >>
Beavers are climate-solving superheroes! These “ecosystem engineers”, as biologists call them, provide nature-based environmental services like carbon drawdown, water storage, natural firebreaks, and wildlife habitats.
Wetlands only cover 2% of the total land area in the American West but support 80% of the biodiversity thanks to beavers. Beaver dams also slow down water flow, keeping it on land longer and making it available to both animals and people. And aside from storing massive amounts of carbon, ponds and wetlands maintained by beavers even act as a natural filtration system that improves the water quality itself.
Without beavers, our wetlands would crumble, which would have devastating consequences on our climate, water supply, and biodiversity. But state fish and game agencies have failed to prioritize the recovery of this fragile species, and we could soon lose them forever if the federal government doesn’t step in immediately. Please, Friend, these beloved climate-fighting animals are relying on us to defend them so they can keep supporting our wetlands and helping the planet. Can we count on you to take action now and DEMAND federal protections of beavers immediately?
Thanks for protecting beavers and our wetlands,
Friends of the Earth
