“It's an endless nightmare (...) I'm afraid to write anything, even in my notebook. I feel I’m being watched all the time.” Six months after the start of a huge wave protests in Tehran on 16 September and the ensuing crackdown, Iran’s journalists are scared and they censor themselves to avoid interrogation or arrest.

More than 70 journalists have been arrested in Iran since the start of the protests and 16 of them are still being held. Reporters Without Borders (RSF) talked to several reporters about what it has been like to live and work in Iran during these past six months.

Despite the heavily repressive arsenal deployed by the authorities, despite imprisonment, violence and censorship, they continue to cover what’s happening. Six months after Mahsa Amini’s death, it is time for the Iranian government to understand that its policy of terror is in vain.

RSF needs your help in order to end the Iranian government’s unacceptable persecution of journalists. Support our new assistance desk for journalists in Iran.
