Friend,
It should never be easy to start a war. For 20 years, it’s been easier than it ever has been.
Monday March 20th marks two decades since the invasion of Iraq. In 1991, Congress passed the Authorization of Use of Military Force (AUMF) to empower the executive branch around the gulf war. Intentionally or not, this opened the door to America’s darkest foreign policy hour: one of endless bloodshed and war. Write your member of Congress and tell them to repeal the AUMF and end this generation of warfare!
America’s overfunded military has combined with an overly powerful executive branch, and it has never been easier for the United States to rush into armed conflict. Warfare itself has transformed into something industrial, secretive, and profitable1. Industrial warfare makes the 1% billions while the world itself burns! Write to your member of Congress: let them know that this country is better than decades of bloody unending warfare.
The American military was created to safeguard freedom, not war profiteers. When armed conflict is this easy, it opens the door for lobbyists to pressure lawmakers into special interest invasions. Call upon Congress to end that vicious cycle, and repeal the AUMF.
