Friends - we have a lot of important things moving in the House this month, and like with so much of what we want to accomplish, we’re facing an uphill battle against Republican opposition.
That makes it even more crucial that we not only push as hard as we can on meaningful legislation right now, but also have our eyes set on retaking the House in 2024. Our shared priorities depend on it.
So here’s the one ask I have for you today: Are you all in to help Democrats regain the majority in the House in 2024? Click through to say you’re on board, then keep reading for a snapshot of my March priorities.
Here’s some of what is top of mind for me:
Fighting back against trans hate. Advancing equality for members of the trans community is not only a professional obligation, it’s also personal as the sister of a trans brother and a gender-nonconforming sibling. In my role as Vice Chair of the Congressional Equality Caucus and co-chair of the Transgender Equality Task Force with Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, I’m fired up to dig into this work and remind Republicans that trans people exist and they deserve respect and dignity.
March 31 is Trans Day of Visibility, which is such an important day to show our support for the community, especially after the last few weeks of particularly horrific rhetoric and legislation targeting them.
Expanding the social safety net. From finding solutions to the nationwide child care crisis to ensuring access to essential health care and housing that’s affordable, I’m committed to addressing these issues right now. I’m proud to be co-leading the Child Care for Every Community Act, which will guarantee child care that is affordable for every family and support our child care providers who are doing such important work.
These are just a couple of the issues that I’m focused on right now - and amid all of this important work, I’m also very aware of the fact that if we want to make real progress, we also need to focus on electoral gains in the coming year.
There are a whole host of extremists and right-wingers who are pushing to flip seats in 2024, and honestly, we ignore them at our own peril. There’s just too much on the line for our families and our communities. So today, I’m asking you to commit to doing whatever you can to help regain a Democratic House majority in 2024. Will you sign on today?
Thanks for standing with me.
