UGENT REQUEST FOR FUNDS:

Help PIH’s team in Haiti provide lifesaving care during escalating violence.

Friends:

This is an urgent request for donations. The violence our team is facing in Haiti is beyond anything we’ve seen in nearly four decades. Our team has responded with consummate bravery—refusing to abandon their posts, and doing everything in their power to save lives.

We're your care delivery team in Haiti.

Help us save lives.

Across Haiti, our team and the people we serve have faced spiraling, indiscriminate violence directed by heavily armed gangs. The national police have been unable to respond, and kidnapping is a daily threat—even to people with no ability to pay ransom.

Here’s what that means for our operations:

1. To avoid the risks of travel, many of our care team are sleeping on the grounds of our clinics and hospitals, falling asleep to the sound of intermittent gunfire.

2. Patients with chronic diseases, who would normally attend regular check-ins, are being provisioned with a long-term supply of medication so they can self-administer at home.

3. We’re investing in increased security and resiliency using methods we cannot disclose publicly to avoid compromising the security of our staff and operations.

Finally, in a rare moment in our 40-year history in Haiti, we’ve had to limit some services at some clinics. Patients have been transferred to safer facilities within our network, including University Hospital, which has become Haiti's preferred public referral hospital. That position, as the backstop for the entire Haitian health care system, makes HUM’s continued operation absolutely critical.

Your donation is urgently needed to support our staff’s heroic efforts to continue to provide lifesaving health care across Haiti: [link removed]

Thank you for rushing your contribution.

In solidarity,

Partners In Health

P.S. For a solution to the current nationwide crisis to succeed, it must be led by Haitians, with the likely support of the international community, but our mission right now is to keep health care available, and our staff safe.
