Senate Finance Committee Passes Prescription Drug Legislation
The Senate Finance Committee passed a bill that includes improvements to the Medicare Part D prescription drug program, including a provision that would cap beneficiary’s out-of-pocket spending. The bill also featured a controversial provision requiring drug manufacturers to pay rebates if they increase brand-name drug prices beyond inflation rates.
Medicare Part D changes are a major focus of our advocacy this year. We are working with Sens. Cardin (D-MD) and Cornyn (R-TX) to include a provision that would improve Part D appeals before the package is considered on the Senate floor in the fall. We are also working with House committees on improvements to the Part D Extra Help Low-Income Subsidy, with action expected in September.
