Spring

Spring represents new beginnings and transformations. In our care, thousands of rescued farm animals have taken their first steps outside, savored their first nourishing meal, or enjoyed their first peaceful rest.

They are often survivors of exploitation and cruelty and need time to heal, trust, and just be free. At our New York and California sanctuaries, they can do all of that while receiving the love and compassion every being deserves.

As warm breezes and longer days encourage new growth, our rescued residents will begin to roam with renewed energy. Flowers will bloom. Zoomies will be had. Tour visitors will return in New York!

This season, and every season, we are grateful for our caregivers, who help create these fresh starts for farm animals.

Your Daily Dose of Sanctuary

Our Explore.org live cameras bring the warmth and celebration of sanctuary to you — wherever you are. Bake your favorite spring treat, curl up by an open window, and tune into our New York sanctuary before we open for the season. See the green-hued hills and farm animals resting — whether in the sheep barn or in the cow pasture. It’s almost like you’re here.

In Pursuit of Spring and Sanctuary

While public tours at our Watkins Glen, New York, sanctuary begin May 5, we are currently accepting reservations for private tours. Gather your flock and witness firsthand how our nearly 600 rescued residents enjoy living on their terms during the awakening of spring. Email [email protected] to book your private tour (weather permitting).

Did you know we also have a bed and breakfast program? Our tiny houses and cabins are great on-site accommodations for your trip.

If you’re on the west coast, our Acton, California sanctuary is open year-round with guided tours every Saturday and Sunday, and select Fridays. Book a tour to meet cows, pigs, sheep, goats, and other farmed species.

In Full Bloom: The Friendship of Aggie & Paula

In celebration of Aggie and Paula’s second rescue anniversary, we’re thinking back on how their friendship bloomed at Farm Sanctuary. Welcomed in April and May 2021, both arrived alone, afraid, and yearning for companionship. Here, they found love, safety, and healing side by side.

Katie Jacoby plays the violin in the sheep pasture

A Song for Sanctuary

In 2021, Composer and Violinist Katie Jacoby visited our New York sanctuary to serenade the rescued residents with a beautiful composition. Jacoby plays as she walks through the sheep, cow, goat, and pig pastures. She plays as she sits on a hay bale, and turkeys peck through the grass at her feet. She plays as she stands in the cow barn. Pop on your headphones or turn up your speakers and enjoy this magical musical sanctuary experience.
