Dear John,

With the Tories in dire straits, there is a massive opportunity for Greens to win big at the elections this spring. The Green Party is aiming to elect 100 more Councillors this year.

But we can only do that with support from volunteers like you.

I was first elected as a Green Councillor in 2017. Six years later, we have seven Green Councillors who run Herefordshire council in coalition with Independent partners.

Sharing power has enabled us to make massive changes for the local community and environment. We held a citizens’ climate assembly and have already invested over £1.3M in their recommendations, including more home insulation.

We’ve supported car clubs, buses, walking and cycling to reduce air pollution and also addressed the cost of living. We’ve created wetlands and worked with partners to start restoring the River Wye - and made sure no new chicken farms got planning permission on our watch.

Our group were elected because of people like you, coming together to deliver our highly effective leaflets and speak with voters.

This year, our campaign ambitions in Herefordshire are huge. We are aiming to at least double our Green Councillors to fourteen. What’s more, this campaign will continue building the foundations for my General Election campaign where I am one of the Green Party’s target candidates.

John, in the Green Party we know the scale of the social and environmental challenges we face. And that’s why we are working our socks off to deliver Green voices at every level.

Right now, I’m asking you to join a target campaign near to you and help offer genuine change to our communities. With your support, we can elect more Greens now, and offer genuine solutions to the challenges we face.

In solidarity,

Ellie Chowns

Councillor for Herefordshire

Cabinet Member for Environment and Ecology

P.S. If you are in or near Ashford or Hove, the Young Greens have organised action days to support Young Green Councillors' campaigns and would love to see lots of you there!
