A very busy week with constituents from District 1A here in St. Paul! I enjoyed visiting with Bryanna Grefthen on Wednseday as she was down in St. Paul to participate in the Minnesota Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts Leadership Program. We covered upcoming SWCD budget issues, the county delegated feedlot program and general leadership topics and she also had a chance to sit in our Environment Committee meeting in the afternoon. Thanks for the conversation Bryanna!?

On Thursday we had a huge group from Thief River Falls show up at the Capitol where we discussed the proposed Paid Family Medical Leave program (HF2) [ [link removed] ] as well as K-12 funding, tax relief and bonding.? We got the group together for a picture in the Senate chambers and finished the visit up singing the Thief River Falls fight song in the Rotunda!

I was also able to present a couple of bills in the Transportation and Agriculture Committees related to the grass seed industry in NW Minnesota. HF1606 [ [link removed] ]" is a bill that supports research for the Minnesota Turf Seed Council. The appropriation must be used to continue basic and applied crop research and "HF1153 [ [link removed] ]" is a bill to clarify that grass seed that has been run through a cleaning and screening mill still qualifies as an agricultural product for purposes of the special farm product permit program. "

"Current law clearly states that grass seed that has been harvested from a field is an ?agricultural crop? and qualifies for the permit, but it is not clear whether grass seed that has been cleaned in a screening mill continues to be considered an ?agricultural crop.?? This bill makes it clear that the cleaned grass seed remains an agricultural crop."
