John,
Every child has a fundamental right to education without discrimination, but right now millions of students are going to lose access to their primary source of nourishment.
Since the onset of the pandemic, millions of families have depended on free school meals funded by COVID emergency relief. Now, with these funds running dry not all students will still qualify for free or reduced-price meals.
For many children in low-income families, school meals are their only consistent source of food. By allocating funds for universal, nutritious school meals, Congress can help to address the issue of food insecurity, which impacts millions of American children.
This investment would have a profound impact on their lives, as it would not only ensure that they have access to the nutrients they need, but would also alleviate the burden on families who struggle to provide adequate meals for their children.
We must put an end to child hunger and food insecurity. Stand up and demand that Congress funds universal, nutritious school meals now!
Too many students still face substantial roadblocks in obtaining a quality education, with hunger and malnutrition among the most severe.
It's outrageous that 1 in 8 children are grappling with hunger, according to USDA estimates.
We cannot let this stand. Sufficient nutrition is vital for a child's growth, development, and academic achievement. We must ensure that no child suffers through their education with an empty stomach or a poor quality diet.
So, as the USDA takes action to curb added sugars and sodium intake, and promote more whole-grain options, we must rally for robust, universal school meals for all students.
It's time we hold Congress accountable and urge them to fund universal, nutritious school meals now!
Together, let’s guarantee that no child goes hungry at school, and every student has the chance to thrive.
