John,
Right-wing politicians have said that everything is on the table in their fight to cut critical programs for working people. This includes Medicaid and CHIP (the Children’s Health Insurance Program), which are lifelines for quality healthcare to millions of Americans.
Right now, House Republicans are threatening to halt paying the country’s bills unless they get deep cuts to programs that working people rely on. And while some Republicans appear to be backing off of their threats to cut Social Security and Medicare (for now), Medicaid and CHIP are firmly in their crosshairs.
If Republicans are serious about addressing the national debt, they should raise taxes on the rich and corporations, not cut programs that help working people and children.
Write to your U.S. senators and representative and demand they defend Medicaid and CHIP against Republican budget cuts.
Already, starting next month, states must begin returning their Medicaid enrollment numbers back to pre-pandemic levels. As a result, it’s estimated that 15 million people could start losing coverage, some because their incomes have risen, but others because they do not provide timely proof despite still being eligible. Some won’t respond because the state does not have their correct address.[1]
Nearly two-thirds of Latinos projected to lose Medicaid will really still be eligible; that will also be true of more than half of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and 40% of African Americans.[2]
We can’t allow right-wing MAGA Republicans to kick even more people off of critical Medicaid and CHIP healthcare coverage using the national debt as their excuse. Write to your members of Congress now and demand they defend Medicaid and CHIP!
We know that when the wealthy and corporations pay their fair share, we can invest in working families and our future.
