John, we’re overwhelmed with grief.
Since December, 23 dead whales have washed onto East Coast shores — an alarmingly high rate that is concerning scientists.
Through a series of autopsies, it appears that boat strikes are the main culprit for these departed whales… and there’s a good chance that this will only continue to be a major threat to many endangered whale species’ survival, like the right whale and the humpback whale.

Why is this happening? How come this is becoming an increased concern for our whales?
The short answer is that whales are falling victim to two crises at once.
You see, John, thanks to climate change warming our oceans, whales have to move their hunting territories closer and closer to the shore. On top of that, the pandemic has increased online shopping demands — which means more ocean shipping traffic with even larger container ships. All of which puts whales right in the middle of treacherous cargo channels.
John, there’s been so much progress in saving the whales, from ending hunting practices to protecting their migration paths. We need to double-down on our efforts to protect whales from becoming yet another victim of climate change.
SEEC Members are fighting for holistic solutions to save critical species like right and humpback whales. Can you donate to our SEEC members as they keep fighting to protect endangered species from the ravages of human-caused environmental change?
