Folks — 🚨Florida Republicans are once again attacking the LGBTQ+ Community.🚨
Their new bill will prohibit public school teachers from referring to a student by their pronouns if they do not correspond to that person's sex. We’re calling this bill "Don't Say They." Needless to say, it is a disgusting example of GOP bigotry on full display and another senseless attack on transgender and gender-nonconforming youth.
House Bill 1223 is a continuation of the Parental Rights in Education bill, or the "Don't Say Gay" bill, that was passed in 2022. “Don’t Say Gay” prohibited teaching and discussions of gender identity and sexuality in grades K-3. This bill is even more extreme, raising that limit to 8th grade.
Students in the LGBTQIA+ community are already at increased risk of bullying, physical assault, and homelessness. The potential for harm here cannot be overstated, team. We must stop this bill in its tracks and put an end to this disturbing trend of anti-LGBTQ+ bills. Can you rush a contribution today so we can continue fighting for dignity and equality for all?
This is yet another case of conservatives manufacturing subjects for outrage in the invented “culture wars” taking place both in and out of schools across the country. From banning books to critical race theory, conservatives are undermining American education at every turn. Enough is enough.
We stand with LGBTQIA+ students and their teachers, and we must use our voices to stand up to all forms of bigotry. Will you join us by chipping in today? >>
