John,
Today, we’re beyond excited to announce that Gov. Evers has appointed our founder, Sarah Godlewski, as Secretary of State!
We would like to thank Doug La Follette for his decades of dedication to the people of Wisconsin throughout his long career as Secretary of State. Doug was first elected in 1974 and then again in 1982, holding the office for eleven consecutive terms spanning more than 40 years. His retirement after more than four decades of service leaves a very important role to fill.
This constitutional office has been held by fewer than 30 individuals since 1848, and Sarah will be only the third woman in Wisconsin history to serve as Secretary of State. Sarah is honored to follow in the footsteps of Glenn Wise and Vel Phillips.
Glenn Wise made state history as the first woman to serve as Secretary of State when she was appointed by former Governor Walter J. Kohler Jr. in 1955.
Vel Phillips was an attorney, politician, jurist, and civil rights activist, who served as an alderperson and judge in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and as secretary of State of Wisconsin. Vel Phillips was the second woman to serve as Secretary of State, and she was the first woman ever to be elected to the position and the first African American elected to statewide office in Wisconsin.
It was a great privilege for Sarah to serve the people of Wisconsin as State Treasurer for four years, and she is humbled that Gov. Evers has called upon her to serve as Secretary of State. To become just the third woman in our state’s history to hold this office is truly the honor of a lifetime for Sarah.
Sarah knows how important this role and its responsibilities are, and she’s eager to get to work!
This exciting news doesn’t change the important work of fighting for reproductive freedoms. A lot is on the line during this spring election season, and our team at Women Win Wisconsin will still be out in full force hosting pro-choice Rallies for Our Rights until Election Day.
Together, we know we can restore reproductive rights in our state. With the critical spring elections less than three weeks away, will you chip in to help us keep battling back against anti-choice extremists? >> [[link removed]]

Thank you all for putting your trust in Sarah. Whether she’s in the Secretary of State’s office or out organizing for pro-choice champions, all the work she does is in service of moving Wisconsin forward.
In solidarity,
Team Women Win Wisconsin
The power to win elections now and in the foreseeable future is with pro-choice Wisconsinites and our fight for our rights.

With the future of our democracy and reproductive freedom at stake, former Wisconsin State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski launched an initiative building on the power of pro-choice women.
The fall of Roe v. Wade reinstated Wisconsin’s cruel abortion ban from 1849 that provides no exceptions for rape or incest and could jail or fine doctors. But we know the right-wing won’t stop there. Governor Evers has already vetoed nine anti-abortion bills that passed the GOP-controlled legislature, and when he called for a special special to repeal the 1849 law, Republicans gaveled in and out in less than a minute.
At Women Win Wisconsin, we believe the key to stopping the GOP is to activate the overwhelming majority of voters who support reproductive freedom. A recent Marquette University Law School poll showed 80% of Wisconsin voters are concerned with the change in abortion policy now that abortion is illegal in the state. These voters can make the difference in Wisconsin races that are often decided by only a few hundred votes.
Women Win Wisconsin will make sure pro-choice voters know exactly who’s going to fight for their reproductive rights and freedoms. We back pro-choice women running in Wisconsin’s most competitive races, and we’re excited to support Democratic victories up and down the ballot.
There are critical spring elections on Tuesday, April 4, 2023.
