A Message from Congresswoman Sherrill

Dear Friends,

This Congress, I was asked to serve on a newly-created Select Committee focused on US-China Strategic Competition. We held our first public hearing, which was focused on the importance of finding bipartisan solutions to the economic and security threats posed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). In this committee, I will be working hard to ensure New Jersey’s manufacturing sector and businesses can compete on a fair playing field so our economy can prosper.

Keep reading to learn more about my work on the Select Committee, as well as how I’m continuing to support Ukraine in their fight for democracy, working to bring resources back to Picatinny Arsenal to recruit a robust and skilled workforce, and standing up to antisemitism.

Check out my Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to stay up to date with the latest news and updates from my office.

Sincerely,

Boosting the U.S. Economy and Holding the CCP Accountable

I am proud to serve on the Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party as we work to promote and protect our values – and our economic interests – here at home and across the world. Click here to listen to my remarks at our first hearing.

Listen to my question here

The CCP’s theft of US trade secrets and intellectual property costs the US economy between $200 billion and $600 billion per year. At the hearing, I asked Alliance for American Manufacturing President Scott Paul about China’s unfair trade practices and how they are impacting manufacturers in New Jersey and across the country.

Following the first hearing, I joined CNBC Squawkbox to discuss how I’m working with the bipartisan committee to halt the CCP’s unfair trade practices, reshore NJ manufacturing, and support our small businesses, all while protecting Democratic values worldwide.

Fighting for Global Democracy and Standing with Ukraine

In both of my trips to Ukraine, I heard from President Zelenskyy and top Ukrainian officials about the ongoing critical need for robust military and humanitarian aid from the United States. I attended a House Armed Services Committee hearing on the need for American support for Ukraine and asked top U.S. defense officials about how we are meeting that objective. Last month, we observed the anniversary of Russia's brutal invasion of Ukraine. I spoke on the House floor to recognize the bravery and resilience of the Ukrainian people and support their fight for global democracy. Watch my full remarks here.

Picatinny Arsenal’s labs and engineering facilities are critical to our national security. As a member of the House Armed Services’ Readiness Subcommittee, I am fighting so they have modernized resources and infrastructure to recruit and retain a highly skilled workforce.

Hearing from Global Business Leaders in NJ-11

Image

I visited the North American headquarters of global shipping and logistics company Maersk. We discussed Maersk’s footprint in New Jersey, supply chain challenges and their role in the US Maritime Security Program. I was especially interested to learn more about how Maersk is leading the way in creating clean energy and alternative fuel for their shipping vessels with orders for 19 vessels that can be powered by methanol.

The innovation and ingenuity happening in the NJ-11 economy is always inspiring. Thanks to Florham Park Mayor Taylor and Craig Schlosser from the Morris Chamber for joining me for the visit.

Combating Extremism and Antisemitism

I joined my colleagues on the bipartisan House Antisemitism Task Force and envoys from around the world to discuss how we can combat global extremism and antisemitism. Antisemitic hate is on the rise not just in the U.S., but globally, and it takes all of us working together to fight it. In light of recent attacks, NJ-11 has come together to stand in solidarity with the Jewish community, and I will bring that resolve with me as I stand up against hate in Congress.

I sat down with the Anti-Defamation League to discuss how the Nonprofit Security Grant Program is critical to helping houses of worship and the importance of teaching Holocaust education in schools. I will continue to be a partner in fighting against antisemitism and hate in our community, and we must continue to stand with our Jewish friends and neighbors.
