Greetings Eastsiders,?????
It?s beginning to look like Spring outside between the stray snowstorms. Thankfully, as it warms up, the east side?s residential side streets are much less snow and ice packed.??
While we wait for Spring to make its official start, we continue to move important work forward at the Capitol. Here is a look at what we have been up to this week.??
Delivering Emergency Rental Assistance
Thursday night, the House passed HF 1440 [ [link removed] ] to deliver Emergency Funds to Minnesota's Family Homeless Prevention and Assistance Program. With rising rent costs and COVID protections and resources expiring, many families are struggling. This funding will help families who are on the verge of losing their home keep a roof over their heads while they get back on their feet.?

Democracy for the People Act
Since January 6, 2021, we?ve seen unprecedented attacks on our democracy. One of the main priorities for the DFL this year is passing HF 3 [ [link removed] ], the Democracy for the People Act. The bill proposes a series of changes to the laws governing voter registration, election administration, election security, and campaign finance and disclosure law.???
The Democracy for the People Act aims to protect and strengthen the freedom to vote, amplify the power of Minnesotans by reducing the influence of dark money and corporations in our politics, and ensure that our democracy is fair, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of Minnesotans across the state.? I am eager to support it when it heads to the House Floor.?

Ranked Choice Voting
This week, The Protect and Advance Democracy Act [ [link removed] ] received its first committee hearing. This bill would expand ranked choice voting to more local governments and create a taskforce to determine how it could be implemented in statewide and federal elections.??
Ranked choice voting has been regarded by experts as one of the top reforms to strengthen our democracy and has worked well for Saint Paul?s municipal elections. It empowers voters to rank candidates in order of preference and ensures candidates earn majority support to win. This will be a fantastic step for Minnesota.???

Funding East Side Organizations
I presented several bills this week, including legislation to invest funding to groups like Comunidades Latinas Unidas En Servicio (CLUES), 30,000 Feet, and the Hmong Cultural Center Museum. All of these organizations and institutions provide vital services and support to our community and support causes near and dear to me. I am proud to do my part to support these organizations.??

Visiting the Capitol
This week, many great folks stopped by to meet with me at the Capitol. Thank you to the folks from the SEIU, Minnesotans for a Smoke Free Generation, the HAP workforce, and the Boys and Girls Club for coming to advocate on important issues. ?
