Fellow Conservative,

If this past week has shown anything, it has shown us that the federal government has more power than it can handle and that bodes poorly for the rest of the country.

The failure of Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) can be traced directly back to the trillions and trillions of dollars that Congress pumped into the economy at President Biden’s behest. Congress drove inflation and created an economy in which banks are taking massive losses on the U.S. bonds they purchased.

Silicon Valley Bank was focused on a woke ESG agenda—they should have been paying attention to inflation and interest rates. Ironically, many of the trillions that Biden and Congress spent were for woke policies, like a Green New Deal.

The problem with this woke, inflationary spending is that it’s not just hurting Left-wing banks. It’s hurting ALL of America. In 2023, Congress must finally kick its addiction to spending.

There is an opportunity to use the debate around the debt ceiling to force Congress to make the right spending decisions.

Heritage Action has created an issue toolkit on spending and the debt ceiling that answers important questions and provides activist resources. It’s time to rein in spending.

Your federal representatives need to hear from you over the coming weeks. Call and reach out to them.

Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has implemented a rule that would provide three weeks of paid leave and reimbursement of travel expenses for military personnel and dependents who are seeking an abortion.

Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala) is blocking the confirmations of numerous nominees to the Department of Defense (DOD) until these anti-life policies are rescinded completely.

Heritage Action is proud to support Sen. Tuberville in his fight to protect life. Executive Director of Heritage Action Jessica Anderson added her signature to a letter written by 23 pro-life leaders in support of Sen. Tuberville’s efforts to roll back anti-life policies in the DOD.

Heritage Action remains committed to holding Congress accountable and encouraging them to secure the border.

Americans gave House Republicans a majority and a policy mandate. That includes a secure border as one of, if not the highest priority.

Just last month Heritage Action for America added its name to The Heritage Foundation’s coalition letter urging Congress to keep its Commitment to America and secure the border.

For the past several decades, Congress has given away nearly all of its authority over the use of military force to the executive branch. It is time that Congress reestablish it's important role in national security.

This past week the Senate voted to advance legislation (S. 316) to repeal the 1991 and 2002 authorizations for the use of military force (AUMFs). This is sound policy that not only will properly realign constitutional military authority, but will also force lawmakers to regain the muscle memory necessary to carry out its war powers and authorize military force in the future, which is especially important with the rising threat from adversaries like China, Russia, and North Korea.

It will return more power to Congress, a deliberative body, which is where any decision to engage in major conflict should come from.

There continues to be a lot of movement on the state level as bills advance closer and closer to becoming law. Here is a glimpse of the action.

Florida is leading the way in protecting parental rights and expanding education freedom. The Sunshine State’s House of Representatives has passed HB 1 which would expand eligibility for Florida's Education Savings Accounts (ESA) to all K-12 students.

HB 1 still has to pass the Senate before it can be signed by Governor Ron DeSantis. Encourage your state senators to support education freedom in the state of Florida!

Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders signed into law SB 199 which protects minors from dangerous cross-sex hormones and experimental surgeries.

Kids are not experiments and should not be subjected to experimental procedures that have been poorly studied and cause lasting consequences.

The standard that The Natural State has set should be replicated across the country.

Georgia is also working to advance an ESA bill. The grassroots are working hard and strategically to expand education freedom in The Peach State.

If you live in Georgia, email your state representative and urge them to support SB 233 to expand the educational opportunities for students!

There are even more bills that our conservative team of Sentinels are working on—it’s really too many to list. If you want to support grassroots victories in your state, please become more connected and join our Sentinel community.
