Eighteen years ago I was starting my first term as state representative in the Maine Legislature. From the floor of the Maine House, then to the state Senate, to the campaign trail while running for Congress, and for the last five and half years as Executive Director of EMILYs List, I have been proud to be a part of this enthusiastic and unapologetic EMILYs List community that never stops fighting for reproductive rights for everyone. And that's why I became an EMILYs List member.

To be honest, when I received my first EMILYs List membership card in the mail in 2008, I didn't know that *every* new and renewed member receives a personalized card. It was a prized possession and I carried it in my wallet -- I still do that today -- and I now know that card symbolizes membership in a millions-strong community. For me, that feeling of being part of something powerful hasn't faded a bit.

Now, our yearly membership drives are a highlight of my year. EMILYs List was founded on a model that allowed donors (like you and me!) to help Democratic pro-choice women run and win.
