OCPAC ~ CITY ELDERS Book Recommendations God's Purpose for Mankind The Erosion of Biblical Theology by Bob Linn When God created the cosmos, he placed His Image in mankind for the single purpose of seeing man rule the earth as His vice-regents. Man was created to rule in a way that reflects His Image. All to express the glory of His inscrutable and enigmatic being. As I tell my grandchildren from time to time, all this is found in chapter one of their Bibles. When Adam, our first parent, failed to guard and protect the planet and the Garden as God instructed him to do (Genesis 2), God articulated again that the earth was His own and that through the seed of the woman, He would strike a fatal blow to evil by crushing the head of Satan (Genesis 3). Hence, the first three chapters of Genesis reveal God's purposes for the entire creation. They are the foundation for understanding the rest of Scripture and all of human history. The first great stopping off point for Eve’s seed was Abraham, the recipient of the great promises which would extend through the incarnation and bring us to where we are today. Politics. God promised Abraham (and his seed) both the entire world (Romans 4) as well as the nations (Gen 12-50; Matt 28, etc.). Through the redemptive work of Christ in regenerating the fallen nature of mankind, man would be restored. Through his redemption in Christ, man regained his capacity to manage God’s earthly affairs. Moses made this point in the book of Deuteronomy. He made clear that it was total transformation God was looking for (see Deuteronomy 10 & Deuteronomy 30). Western Civilization was built upon these ideas. Governments bowing the knee to Christ as Lord in submission to the Laws of God. Not governments based on the idea of human autonomy with no legal absolutes upon which to construct a society. Biblical governmental principles leads to individual freedom through the elimination of the political tyrannies of the ungodly. Those who seek to stamp out Christianity are also those who step on the necks of their citizens. I am thinking of tyrants like Stalin, Lenin, and Mussolini. Today’s political tyrannies include Iran, China, and Venezuela. History's Examples One of the greatest examples of the biblical attitude toward nation-building in the West came in 1643 with England’s Solemn League and Covenant. Oliver Cromwell, the great English statesman of the time, said: All of English history had been merely a preparation for the events of 1640-1643. This historic 1643 document was signed by England’s House of Commons, House of Lords, and King Charles II. It included the commonwealths of Ireland and Scotland. Here are some excerpts: We noblemen, barons, knights … in the kingdoms of England, Scotland, and Ireland, by the providence of God … having before our eyes the glory of God, and the advancement of the kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ … this covenant we make in the presence of the Almighty God …to the glory of God, the enlargement of the kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the peace and tranquility of Christian kingdoms and commonwealths. Political scientist and commentator, Michael Wagner points out: This Solemn League and Covenant was a major document of seventeenth-century Britain. That is to say, the legitimate governing authorities of England bound themselves and their nation to follow the Lord God of the Bible. To quote Dr. Joseph Boot: Puritans believed that God created society as a unified whole. Church and state, the individual and the public, are not unrelated spheres of life, but are complimentary, intimately connected by God’s act of creation and his continuing providence. ~Dr. Joseph Boot The Mission of God, P 130 Having forgotten its original purpose in creation, the church today has morphed the Biblical message. The modern (man-made) “gospel” is really another gospel altogether. It has eviscerated all divine purposes for the people of God as managers of His earthly Kingdom. Even our "fundamentalist" churches preach a gospel tailored (severely limited) to secure an eternal all-expense paid vacation while making life as comfortable on earth as possible. It is time we opened our Bibles and returned to our assignment. It is, by the way, the only assignment we will ever have. It is time the church repents of its ingrown, hedonistic narcissism. The church must assume its position of responsibility to promote godliness in all areas of life. This includes education, entertainment, politics, government, the arts, literature, business, etc. Why is politics today so dirty? The church has vacated the premises. American church folks have taken their prayers and their Bibles with them. Not so with Norman pastor and teacher James Taylor. Last Week Oklahoma Leaders Cast Vision for A Promising Future CLARENCE HILL Clarence Hill communicated political dynamics few of us had considered. His leadership brings hope for Oklahoma's future. His Godly (Biblical) foundations reflect the lives of America's founding pastors who handed us a government we have since abandoned. We have failed to fulfill our Christian duty to be vigilant in public affairs. Clarence is effectively mobilizing many to pick up the mantle we've dropped. It is a movement which is working in tandem with many churches as well as the many areas of influence developed by pastor Hill, our main speaker. She spoke briefly to communicate to us the bright hope which lies in our future. _______________ DON SPENCER The political situation in Virginia is of grave concern to all Americans. It is a concern to our international friends who know America represents the last bastion of freedom and opportunity. He opened our meeting by updating us on the situation there as well as the second amendment challenges still before all Oklahomans in 2020. _______________ DANIEL NAVEJAS The leading cause of death globally each year is due to the practice of abortion. Breitbart reports that in 2018 there were 42.9 million abortions. These figures are gathered by the World Health Organization (WHO) and document that the leading cause of death world-wide is not heart disease, cancer, accidents, or other forms of murder. It is murder sanctioned by governments and cultures no longer under the influence of a Biblical ethic. The leading cause of death in the world today is abortion. Daniel spoke briefly but powerfully as to what this means for Oklahoma and America as a whole. Coincidentally, the President made news last week as he spoke about this blight on American culture. Making 2020 the Year of the Bible Oklahoma Senate Resolution 7 Senator Nathan Dahm and House Majority Floor Leader, Jon Echols, are promoting a resolution to recognize the contribution the Bible has made in the political documents of the United States. They point to the many U.S. Presidents who have noted the profound influence of the Word of God in the development of the nation. The resolution states that a return to the bedrock of our Republic is important for the future of Oklahoma. Read the Resolution here. Let these men know you support them in this Resolution. Among other things relating to medical licensing. It specifies no license will be issued to anyone who performs an abortion with only two exceptions. J.J.
