John —
If you don’t know me already, my name is Emma Weinert and I am the new Executive Director of the Senate Majority Fund here in Iowa. I have been working with the SMF and our amazing Senate caucus here since December 2021, and I am so excited I get to continue this work. (Today also happens to be my birthday, and I’d love it if you could chip in to help make it a great day.)
This year Republicans in the legislature have been laser focused on passing legislation that attacks our public schools, our local government, and LGBTQ+ kids. There’s a lot to be frustrated and disappointed with looking at the ongoing legislative session. But last night, our Iowa Senate leaders held a town hall in Johnston and I am feeling jazzed.
Over 100 people braved a snowstorm (and skipped March Madness) to talk with us about how to make this state and their communities better. Iowans in Johnston and across the state are ready for change in the Senate, and are ready to get to work now.
There is a lot of work we need to do in Iowa to fight back against the terrible legislation going through the Iowa legislature right now. But I know this is not what Iowans want, and I know that we can elect good people who will fight to protect our kids every day.
Chip in whatever you can today to help us fight back (and to help me celebrate my birthday) >>
Thank you for your support and for giving me hope,
Emma
