Dear John, This Sunshine Week—which highlights the importance of transparency—we uncovered how the government has failed Afghans. One year ago, we started digging for more information about the life-threatening delays thousands of Afghans faced when trying to seek safety in the United States after the U.S. military withdrew from Afghanistan. Despite the Biden administration’s commitment to protect Afghans, a key method for providing this protection—humanitarian parole—was not working. The government had only processed a fraction of the applications for humanitarian parole. Now, a year later, we have some answers.
This discovery shows why government transparency is so vital. We wouldn’t have this information if we didn’t have access to government records. And work like this is only possible with your support. Consider making a gift to help us ensure the government is transparent and held accountable for its inaction.
Sincerely, |
