Friend --

Join us on Tuesday, February 4 “A Congress for Everyone: The Impact of the Fair Representation Act <[link removed]>,” a symposium with leading democracy scholars and practitioners to discuss what a fair and proportional voting system would look like in the United States.

Here is what the sessions will look like:

- Lee Drutman of New America Foundation and Neal Simon will discuss their new books with Sangita Sigdyal our executive VP of operation and strategies.

- Allison Riggs of Southern Coalition for Social Justice will speak with Dave Daley our senior communications fellow and gerrymandering expert about the impact partisan gerrymandering has on our elections as well as how the Fair Representation Act is one solution to consider.

- FairVote’s Pedro Hernandez will facilitate a panel focusing on voting rights and representation of communities of color with Ruth Greenwood of Campaign Legal Center and George Cheung of More Equitable Democracy.

- Congressman Don Beyer of Virginia and Cynthia Terrell of RepresentWomen will discuss the future of the Fair Representation Act and representation for women as we celebrate the suffrage centennial.

FairVote’s Drew Penrose and Rob Richie and The Election Reformers Network’s Kevin Johnson will kick things off on why the time is right for change and how the Fair Representation Act works.

At a time when Americans increasingly feel like our elections are broken, a bold new proposal has been put forward that could, in the words of the New York Times editorial page, create "A Congress for Every American." The Fair Representation Act is intended to solve our problems of partisan gerrymandering and uncompetitive elections by replacing our winner-take-all system with a fair and proportional system: ranked choice voting in multi-winner districts.

The event is free, open to the public and will be available via a live stream <[link removed]>.
