Friends,

Buckle up: We're going after some tough GOP turf in Texas.

Tomorrow, voters in the Texas State House District 28 will cast their ballots in a special runoff election that could bring Democrats one seat closer to retaking the key chamber before the 2021 redistricting process locks in maps for the next decade.

With only 9 seats to a Democratic majority in the Texas State House, we're playing offense and fighting for every seat we can win. HD-28 has long been a GOP stronghold, but changing demographics and suburban growth have shifted the political landscape--giving us a shot to pick up another seat.

This race is at the frontline of the fight to win the Texas State House and rewrite the electoral landscape for a generation to come. Chip in as we come down to the wire with this special election tomorrow.

As our Communications Director Ben Wexler-Waite told NBC News ([link removed]), "Up until now, the opportunity to flip the Texas House has mostly flown under the radar, but we've quietly been implementing a long-term plan to finish the job and upend the entire 2021 redistricting process."

We've been making inroads towards winning back the chamber since 2018. After our significant investment in the first special election for this seat back in November helped the only Democrat in the race come away with the highest vote total, we're back now with another investment as the race heads to a run-off next tomorrow.

The Associated Press ([link removed]) reported, "Forward Majority, which is spending millions of dollars nationwide to flip GOP-controlled statehouses, says it has spent $400,000 on the race, at least four times what the group spent on any other Texas district in 2018."

However, to be clear, it's not even in the top 10 most competitive districts. Ultimately, we have a pathway to retaking the 9 more seats Democrats need for a majority in the chamber and we're going to keep fighting through November.

With Texas' congressional delegation expected to stand 40 seats strong after the 2020 Census, the Texas State House is the crown jewel of the redistricting process. Winning a Democratic Majority in the Texas State House would put a check on Republican gerrymandering and voter suppression for the decade to come.
