Friend,
I wanted to make sure you heard the news from me, personally: I just introduced my first bill, the Making Insulin Affordable for All Children Act, to cap the cost of insulin for children across the country.
I’m proud to say our bill was inspired by, and introduced to help, kids like Isaiah Gentry. I had the honor of getting to know Isaiah when he joined me at last month’s State of the Union address, but allow me to share his story with you.
A proud Cincinnati native, Isaiah is a 7th grader living with Type 1 diabetes.
From the moment he was diagnosed, Isaiah’s family has struggled to afford the high cost of insulin. The financial burden became so severe that his mom, Tara, had to place her career on hold to take a lower-paying job – just to ensure her son’s life-saving medication would be covered by Medicaid.
Isaiah’s story is unfortunately not unique. Countless families across America are being bankrupted by the high cost of insulin.
Enough is enough. Children like Isaiah deserve to receive the life-saving care they need, without breaking the bank. And I couldn’t be prouder to introduce legislation that aims to do just that.
I know we have a long road ahead to get this passed, but as I told WCPO Cincinnati (article), I think my colleagues will do the right thing for our children. Our future depends on it.
I’m honored to share this moment with you, team. Thank you for everything.
With appreciation,
Greg
