This is why Cori’s leadership is so necessary right now.
John,
It may be what many consider the “off-year,” but for those whose lives are disproportionately affected by the decisions of elected officials, we know there is no off-year.
Just look at the way Republicans are attacking Black and Brown majority-cities and their ability to self-governance:
From the Texas Education Agency taking over the Houston Independent School District with no inclusion of local officials to Mississippi and Missouri’s state governments taking control of the water and criminal justice systems in Jackson and St. Louis, respectively, the GOP’s national assault on our communities is clear.
They are intentionally undermining the will of the people in these communities and placing the power of health, education, and criminal justice in the hands of state-appointed white officials.
Organized political assaults on Black and brown communities by Republicans is nothing new, John, but that’s why Cori’s leadership is so necessary right now. As a life-long community organizer and the first activist from the movement in defense of Black lives elected to federal office, we need to keep Cori on the frontlines of this fight.
