Updates from Washington
Introduced the Federal Firearm Licensee Act
I am proud to lead another piece of legislation to combat gun violence in our communities. This legislation would update sections in the U.S. Code directed at federal firearms licensees (FFLs) that have not been updated in 30 years. The current rules insulate rogue firearms dealers who engage in unlawful practices from enforcement action and frustrate law enforcement efforts to curb gun trafficking and violence in our communities.
I announced my role as a co-chair of the Bipartisan Maternity Care Caucus
I’m honored to Co-Chair of the bipartisan Maternity Care Caucus with Rep. Young Kim (R-CA) for the 118th Congress. Solving the maternal mortality crisis is incredibly important to me and I am committed to working across the aisle to get things done for mothers and babies. No matter your party affiliation, all communities have suffered from the rise in maternal mortality during the pandemic.
My Precision Agriculture Satellite Connectivity Act was approved by Energy and Commerce Subcommittee
The Precision Agriculture Satellite Connectivity Act, a bipartisan bill, was unanimously approved by the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications and Technology. I introduced this bill with Ohio Rep. Bob Latta. This bill puts America’s innovation and ingenuity to work to ensure that farmers have the resources they need to continue serving as the backbone of our food supply.

I presented celebratory checks to the City of Harvey and Prairie State College.
One of the best parts of my job is bringing your tax dollars back to your communities. Because of my recommendation, federal funding was awarded to the City of Harvey to purchase a new fire engine and enhance streetlights for public safety. I was also proud to present Prairie State College with federal funding to support an expanded dental hygiene program and increase learning opportunities for students.
I am so proud to have the opportunity to represent you. Whether I am home in the district or fighting for you in Washington, the people of the Second District are always my first priority.
