Dear John,
A massive push is now underway on Capitol Hill, in the media and on the campaign trail for “reforming” Social Security and Medicare. Some support raising the retirement age or Medicare eligibility age, others support means testing earned benefits or privatizing these programs for the benefit of huge corporations and Wall Street bankers.
But out of all the Republicans calling for everything to be on the table when it comes to “saving” Social Security and Medicare, not a single one has gone on the record in support of a commonsense proposal that would shore up Social Security by making the wealthy pay their fair share into the program. Nor do any Republicans support President Biden’s plan to expand Medicare’s ability to negotiate the price of prescription drugs with drug makers, which would save Medicare even more money in the long run.
Please support the National Committee’s urgent campaign to stop dangerous proposals that would cut or privatize Social Security and Medicare from gaining traction in Congress by making a most generous donation of $12, $9 or $5 today!
As you know extremists in the Republican Party continue to fixate on Social Security and Medicare as the “solution” to reducing soaring budget deficits and balancing the budget. And we will be closely monitoring legislation they introduce that in any way harms your earned benefits.
That’s why the National Committee is using every tool at our disposal — advocacy, education and grassroots efforts — to fight against reckless proposals that will harm your retirement security.
John, our strength lies in the participation of our more than one million members and supporters — and frankly, each and every dollar counts. Please make one urgent donation today to help us remind wealthy, out-of-touch lawmakers that millions of older Americans like you have paid into and earned their benefits.
Social Security and Medicare are not “entitlements” and they certainly should not be used as pawns in budget negotiations!
Sincerely,
|
