A massive police training complex, known as "Cop City," by local activists is currently moving forward in the Weelaunee Forest outside Atlanta, Georgia.

This facility, which is being backed by $60 million in corporate funding and $30 million in taxpayer money, is being marketed as a necessary investment in community safety, but it poses a significant threat.

The construction of Cop City will come at a staggering cost, with estimates placing the total price tag well over one hundred million dollars in part because it would have its own nightclub, a Black Hawk helipad and dozens of firing ranges among many other excesses.

There is no doubt that this money would be better spent supporting our schools, improving our infrastructure, or investing in a number of other community initiatives that truly benefit people.

To ensure that resources are spent on helping communities instead of over policing them we must stop Cop City from becoming a reality. Sign the petition to private investors: No massive police training complex. Stop Cop City!

This facility will bring with it a significant increase in police presence and surveillance in communities of color, which would come at a great cost to the well-being of the city's Black and Brown residents, affecting their physical, mental, and environmental health.

This would be particularly harmful for the BIPOC communities, which already face a lack of green spaces because the construction of the facility would only decimate the little amount of green space that is currently available, thus compounding the harmful effects of climate change and environmental racism.

It’s clear that the introduction of Cop City would lead to an increase in police power and further traumatize already distressed Black and Brown communities.

Instead of investing in Cop City, the private money bankrolling it should direct their resources towards programs and policies that promote public health and safety in a way that benefits everyone.

Sign the petition demanding that private investors halt their plans for Cop City and tell them that there are better uses for our resources than building a massive police training facility.

Together, we can ensure that the needs and desires of communities around the nation come first.
