Welcome to Monday, January 27th, kind hearts and coronets...

"You will find that the president did absolutely nothing wrong."

So said White House counsel Pat Cipollone during Saturday's opening arguments by President Donald Trump's legal team.

"We don't believe that they have come anywhere close to meeting their burden for what they're asking you to do," Cipollone said of the Democrats. "In fact, we believe that when you hear the facts, and that's what we intend to cover today - the facts - you will find that the president did absolutely nothing wrong."

Virginia Sen. Mark Warner, the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, said he was curious why officials like Secretary of State Mike Pompeo were not providing testimony to support the defense.

“If they can come in and swear to tell the truth on evidence that clears the president or reinforces the president’s case why aren’t they testifying?"

Trump's team used two hours of their allotted 24 to make their opening presentation and will continue when the Senate reconvenes later today.

Honoring Kobe Bryant

Politicians, celebrities, sports stars, and fans continue to pay their respects to NBA legend Kobe Bryant, who died in a helicopter crash Sunday along with his daughter and seven other people.

PIC-O

Former President Obama tweeted: "Kobe was a legend on the court and just getting started in what would have been just as meaningful a second act. To lose Gianna is even more heartbreaking to us as parents. Michelle and I send love and prayers to Vanessa and the entire Bryant family on an unthinkable day."

President Trump posted on Instagram: "Kobe Bryant, despite being one of the truly great basketball players of all time, was just getting started in life. He loved his family so much, and had such strong passion for the future. The loss of his beautiful daughter, Gianna, makes this moment even more devastating."

Shaquille O'Neal posted on Instagram about his former teammate: "There's no words to express the pain I'm going through now with this tragic and sad moment of losing my friend, my brother, my partner in winning championships, my dude and my homie. I love you brother and you will be missed."
