Kwame Alexander is a poet, educator, producer and #1 New York Times bestselling author.

Friend,

You are invited to join the SPLC for a conversation on race, hope and love with Kwame Alexander at 5:30 p.m. CT this evening.

Kwame Alexander is a poet, educator, producer and #1 New York Times bestselling author of dozens of books. Tafeni English-Relf, director of the CRMC and the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Alabama state office, sits with the bestselling author of “An American Story” for a frank discussion on race.

“An American Story,” published this year, tells the story of American slavery through the voice of a teacher trying to help her students understand the country’s history. Alexander’s “Door of No Return” series explores the slave trade through an 11-year-old boy from West Africa.

Alexander is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Lee Bennett Hopkins Poetry Award, the Coretta Scott King Author Honor and the 2017 Inaugural Pat Conroy Legacy Award. He was awarded the Newbery Medal for children’s literature for his 2014 book “The Crossover,” about basketball prodigy twins.

We hope you will join us this evening. The event will be livestreamed on Facebook and our website, where ASL interpretation and live captions will be available.

Watch Live at 5:30 p.m. CT

Sincerely,

Your Friends at the Southern Poverty Law Center
