John,
In response to President Biden’s historic budget proposal, the far-right House Freedom Caucus has come out with their own plan to slash healthcare, education, science, labor programs, and more―while threatening to default on our country’s fiscal obligations if their demands aren’t met.[1]
The Biden budget provides a clear roadmap to making responsible investments that benefit working families, while also reducing the national debt by $3 trillion over 10 years. And, it’s fully paid for by making the rich and corporations pay their fair share.
We’re keeping pressure on Congress to act, joining our allies at the Coalition on Human Needs and others to send messages directly to Congress. Click here to take action today and demand Congress pass the Biden budget!
Instead of massive cuts to critical programs coupled with more tax breaks for the rich, the president’s plan will invest in children, healthcare, housing, education, and more.
President Biden’s budget would raise nearly $5 trillion in tax revenue over 10 years from the rich and corporations―investing $2.8 trillion to preserve and expand vital public services while reducing our national debt by nearly $3 trillion.[2]
The president is proposing improvements to Medicare that would extend the lifespan of the trust fund through 2050 by closing loopholes abused by wealthy business owners and by expanding Medicare’s ability to negotiate prescription drug prices.
He’s proposing expanding healthcare access to low-income people in states that have refused to expand their Medicaid programs under the Affordable Care Act.
The president is investing in young families by expanding affordable child care for 16 million children, plus universal pre-K for all four-year olds and more funding for Head Start.
From protecting SNAP nutrition benefits for low-income children and families to investments in affordable housing to providing up to 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave, the Biden budget has investments that improve the lives of millions of everyday people―all paid for by asking the rich and corporations to pay their fair share.
Take action today. Click here to send a message to your senators and representative and urge them to pass the Biden budget that invests in our future, reduces our national debt, and asks the wealthy and corporations to pay a little more in taxes.
Republicans point to the national debt and claim the only solution is cuts to critical programs. (At the same time they are cynically proposing to renew some expiring Trump tax cuts, which will add $3 trillion to the deficit.)[3] The president’s budget provides the American people with a clear alternative that invests in working people while making the wealthy and corporations pay their fair share.
Thank you for taking action today,
Frank Clemente
