On Monday the Bureau of Labor Statistics released January unemployment figures, showing Indiana with a 3.1% unemployment rate, the same as December and lower than the national rate of 3.4%. This marked the 31st consecutive month that Indiana's unemployment rate was lower than the nation's, a streak longer than that of states like Florida and Texas. With our results-driven focus, we've created an economic environment that allows entrepreneurs and businesses of all sizes to thrive, leading to more growth and more opportunity for all Hoosiers.
Don't forget — in 2022, Indiana had its highest level of capital investment ever, with 218 companies committing to locate or expand here while investing more than $22.2 billion in operations and creating 24,059 new jobs. And this year, Governor Holcomb has set an ambitious goal to reach $23 billion! It's clear that the "Indiana Way" is working — and that's in spite of the disastrous Biden administration, not because of it.

Governor Eric Holcomb speaks during the Union County economic development announcement in Liberty on Thursday. |
On Wednesday, Gov. Eric Holcomb joined local officials and community leaders in Gary to announce $10 million of Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative (READI) funding will be used to support the $30 million Tolleston Opportunity Campus, which will increase access to childcare, health care and other community programming.
“Indiana’s strong fiscal foundation has placed us in a position of strength and has enabled us to make unprecedented investments in our rural, urban and suburban communities,” said Gov. Holcomb. “This historic initiative in Gary will provide critical services for Hoosiers, increase quality of place and position the city and surrounding region for continued success.” Then on Thursday, Gov. Eric Holcomb joined local officials and executives of Full Throttle Fulfillment Solutions, a woman-owned, third-party logistics provider, as the company announced plans to establish operations in Union County, creating up to 50 new jobs by the end of 2026.
“Indiana’s economic momentum continues to accelerate thanks to entrepreneurs and successful small businesses like Full Throttle Fulfillment Solutions,” said Gov. Holcomb. “As a state, we have a long history of entrepreneurship and innovation thanks to our strong Hoosier work ethic backed by forward looking leaders. It’s clear our vision and entrepreneurial spirit will continue to drive both our local communities and economy forward for years to come.”

Included in H.R. 1 is H.R. 1140, authored by Rep. Greg Pence, to unlock critical energy minerals, and H.R. 1068, the Securing America’s Critical Minerals Supply Act, authored by Rep. Larry Bucshon.

ICYMI: National Review: Biden’s Budget Includes $5.5 Trillion in Tax Hikes
|
As the New York Times put it, President Biden's proposed budget "doubles down on the power of government." It also increases IRS funding by an additional 15% on top of the additional $80 billion it received in the so-called "Inflation Reduction Act."
From National Review: President Biden on Thursday unveiled a budget that has a staggering $5.5 trillion in tax hikes to help finance an expansion of Obamacare, Medicaid, and housing subsidies, as well as a slew of other federal programs.
Though the budget claims $3 trillion of deficit savings, that is only when measured against the budget that was already inflated by his first two years in office.
While the budget is not going anywhere, given Republican control of the House of Representatives, it does represent Biden’s opening salvo in upcoming negotiations over the budget and raising the debt ceiling. Story continues.

If you know a college student that's interested in stepping into the world of Hoosier politics, we've got them covered.
We're looking for young, talented Hoosiers to join us at our headquarters in Indianapolis. This opportunity allows them to get hands-on experience working for Indiana's largest and most successful political organization, providing administrative support to staff and taking on special projects (and more) while helping build their resume, gain insight into the political and legislative processes, and make valuable connections. And we'll do this all while helping them earn college credit.
Have someone in mind? Send them to this link for more information and to apply! |
