WEEKLY UPDATE March 17th, 2023 Dear Kansas friends, Thank you for your interest in receiving my newsletter. Please feel free to share this with your friends and family. Fortifying Welfare Work Requirements I am proud to introduce the Jobs and Opportunities Acts to fortify work requirements for SNAP and Medicaid. It’s past time for Congress to act on welfare reform to grow our economy, strengthen our workforce, and better protect Americans’ hard-earned tax dollars. Learn more HERE COVID-19 Lab Leak Declassification Last week, House Republicans put a bill on the floor to declassify all information relating to the COVID-19 lab leak. It passed 419-0. The Senate passed the same bill in 2021 but Speaker Pelosi refused to bring it up for a vote. Why did Democrats want to hide the truth from the American people? Watch HERE Fighting the Fentanyl Epidemic in Kansas Fentanyl overdoses are up 57% in Kansas City, Kansas. This isn't a partisan issue. The fentanyl epidemic is impacting families and communities in every corner of America. It’s vital that Congress gives our law enforcement the resources they need to secure the border & get this drug off our streets. Watch HERE Last week I told the story of Nicholas “Cruz” Burris—a 15-year-old student at Lansing High School who died of a fentanyl overdose earlier this year. As the cartels continue to target America's youth, it's vital that parents talk to their children about the dangers of this deadly drug. Designating Mexican Cartels as Terrorist Organizations It’s time to call Mexican cartels what they truly are - terrorist organizations. I’m proud to cosponsor the Drug Cartel Terrorist Designation Act to designate the Gulf Cartel, the Cartel Del Noreste, the Cartel de Sinaloa, and the Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generacion as foreign terrorist organizations. Read more HERE Over 1,000 illegal immigrants bombarded a port of entry in El Paso, Texas on Sunday. This is the reality of what we are facing at the southern border. Instead of providing more resources to our brave Border Patrol agents, President Biden wants to cut the DHS by $600 million. Meeting with Fort Scott Students Grateful to end my week in Washington meeting with 8th graders from Fort Scott Middle School. We are all in agreement: Hot Wok in Fort Scott is a great place to grab dinner! March Madness Begins! Today is the first day of March Madness! I am so proud to have two Kansas teams in the tournament this year. Good luck to Coach Bill Self, Coach Jerome Tang, and all the players, staff, and students!
