Legislative Update
Friends and Neighbors,
This week on the House Floor we submitted our minority report to the education omnibus bill. In contrast to the current bill, our report focuses on providing solutions that get students back on track after nearly three years of learning loss. Currently, less than half of our students can read at grade level. Our plan provides resources to get students science-backed curriculum, train teachers on the best practices for implementing this curriculum, and provide access to tutors so that students can make up lost time. Our education dollars should fund students, not the system of bureaucrats and administrators in the executive department.

This week I had the honor of joining the civility caucus for their breakfast. This is a bipartisan group of legislators who meet to find issue areas we agree on and can work together to address. There will always be issues on which we vehemently disagree but It?s important to remember we all want what is best for the state and there are areas we can work together to accomplish that goal.
Unfortunately, not everything was good bipartisan work this week as limiting gun rights continues to be a priority for the majority. As a strong supporter of the second amendment, these bills are a clear violation of that right. They attempt to turn law-abiding citizens into criminals with onerous and restrictive mandates. Public safety is a top priority of this legislative session and that will be harder to accomplish if we are going to limit the rights of upstanding citizens while doing nothing to address the problem of rising crime. We can provide the resources people may need in times of crisis without infringing on the due process of our citizenry.
This past weekend I attended the Sibley County BPOU convention and it was great. I had a wonderful time speaking with all of you and hearing about what issues are most important to you. Even if you missed out, I am always happy to hear from constituents on what issues are most important. You can reach my office at
