An elementary school in Alabama made headlines this week with the unveiling of a “bulletproof classroom.” A retractable device that doubles as a whiteboard can be deployed by a child as young as four years old, according to the manufacturer. 

This is NOT the answer! Rather than requiring children to rehearse their own deaths and investing in "bulletproof" classrooms, we should be focusing on keeping guns out of the hands of people intent on causing harm.

The gun violence epidemic is preventable. But not through the invention of bulletproof safe rooms and backpacks or by arming teachers. We are fighting for the policies and programs we know actually work to keep our schools and communities safe from gun violence.
