Errors on returns can delay processing for your clients. Here are some common errors on Form M1 and Form M1PR and how to solve them.

  • Form M1 not amended to report federal return changes.
  • Form M1PR not amended when household income changed on Form M1.
    • Solution: File Form M1PRX if household income changed on Form M1 after filing it.
  • Estimated payments do not match our records.
    • Solution: Before filing, contact us to verify your clients? estimated payments made.
  • Form M1PR submitted without Certificates of Rent Paid (CRPs).
    • Solution: For electronic returns, enter the CRPs into your tax software. For paper returns, make copies of the original CRPs and include them with returns.
  • Incorrect box checked on Form M1PR (Renter, Homeowner, Mobile Home Owner, Nursing Home, or Adult Foster Care Resident).
    • Solution: Your software should require one of these boxes to be checked. For paper-filed returns, verify the correct box is checked. For details about these boxes, see page 5 of our Form M1PR instructions.
