We must protect the United States Postal Service (USPS) from Wall Street and Louis DeJoy, the Postmaster General appointed by Trump who has been working towards privatizing USPS. This move could devastate rural, remote, and Indigenous communities that rely on USPS for essential services such as receiving medications and voting by mail.
Private companies won’t build offices in rural and remote areas because it’s not profitable. But unlike private delivery services like UPS and FedEx, USPS is legally required to deliver to all regions at a flat rate, which makes it possible for them to reach remote areas.
Privatizing the Postal Service would lead to a decline in service and increased rates, further disadvantaging communities that depend on it.
With MAGA Republicans controlling the U.S. House, the Postal Service is more vulnerable than ever. It’s up to a strong USPS Postal Board to stand up to DeJoy and stop the 10-year plan before it’s too late.
