Dear Friend,
Volunteers from around the country are arriving here in Washington, D.C. to help make this Saturday’s march in front of the White House a successful launch of a new anti-war movement.
Many of the volunteers are a new generation of organizers <[link removed]> who were very young children when the Bush/Cheney regime launched the “shock and awe” invasion of Iraq – a war based on lies.
The wars haven’t stopped and neither have the lies. The military-industrial complex now gets the lion’s share of the discretionary budget each year while 140 million people in the U.S. live in or near poverty.
Thousands of people will march together on March 18. We are at a crossroads. The Pentagon has adopted major power conflict as its top priority. The Ukraine war is a proxy war with Russia. More than $150 billion in U.S. weapons have been shipped into the conflict. A Russian military jet collided with a U.S. spy drone over the Black Sea in recent days. The U.S. is sending weapons and troops to Taiwan and preparing for war with China.
All of this is madness! We have to act—and we are!
The U.S. war machine, for all practical purposes, rules the White House and Congress. But there is also a growing sense of alarm and disapproval from the people of this country who want peace, who oppose endless U.S. wars, and who want their tax dollars spent on meeting human needs rather than death and destruction.
