Special interests kill E-Verify bill in West Virginia. Help us defeat them and pass sensible immigration reforms!
Over the last several weeks, NumbersUSA has been on the ground in West Virginia, trying to encourage the state legislature to pass SB 656, a bill that would require all employers to use E-Verify – the free and easy-to-use federal online system that protects American workers by preventing illegal aliens from obtaining jobs. → First, a Senate Committee passed the bill UNANIMOUSLY! → Second, the Senate passed the bill UNANIMOUSLY! → Third, a House Committee passed the bill UNANIMOUSLY! We were cruising to an easy victory in our effort to prevent illegal immigration! We conducted polling in West Virginia and found that 70% of WV voters supported the bill. But after reaching the final step -- floor passage in the House of Delegates -- we were stymied by a few special interest groups. Over the last few weeks, I witnessed, firsthand, how a powerful few could quickly stop sensible immigration-enforcement legislation that had overwhelming support from the voters and Democrats and Republicans alike in the West Virginia state legislature. This wasn't the first time that these special interest groups shut down a popular immigration-enforcement bill. And it won't be the last! Here in Washington, we're already seeing a small handful of GOP lawmakers block Rep. Chip Roy's H.R. 29, the Border Safety and Security Act. Rep. Roy's legislation is a commonsense, first-step solution to ending the Biden Administration's ongoing border crisis. These special interest groups are well-funded, but there's one thing that NumbersUSA has that those groups don't -- a massive and engaged grassroots network of voters. However, providing action alerts to our grassroots activists, delivering their electronic messages to Members of Congress, and supporting those messages with a team of lobbyists on Capitol Hill costs money. Pres. Biden's border crisis continues to spiral out of control. Border Patrol agents are still making more than 130,000 apprehensions of illegal border crossers each month -- several times more than the average level. Americans want Congress to take action! But the special interest groups support the status quo. Please provide financial support to NumbersUSA and help us defeat these groups and pass immigration legislation that serves the national interest!
