This is unacceptable, team. When Donald Trump ran for president he promised his voters -- and the American people at large -- that he would protect Medicare and Social Security. Now he’s saying that he’s willing to make cuts to safety net programs if he wins a second term.

This is in addition to OVER $1 TRILLION of proposed cuts from Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, and the Social Security Disability Insurance program in his last budget.

But since last week’s announcement is a departure from what the president has said in the past, there’s a potential that he could still change his mind. I want to prove that these cuts don’t have popular support, and that cuts to these programs could affect hundreds of thousands of Americans. Millions of people rely on these programs, including hundreds of thousands of people right here in New Jersey. Cuts to these programs will leave our friends, neighbors and loved ones out in the cold, without the income that they’ve earned and come to rely on.

I’ve already led the charge on protecting seniors and improving their quality of life, with my bill to lower prescription drug costs -- but that must be done in conjunction with protecting the programs that already exist.
