Dear Friend,
Thank you to everyone who participated in the teletown hall last Thursday. Over 6,500 constituents joined the call, and I answered some great questions from participants covering a wide range of issues from the border crisis to COVID-19 investigations and woke educational institutions. I have made the entire conversation available to anyone who would like to listen, and I encourage you to do so by clicking here.
Right to Life
As we continue to fight for the right to life of the unborn, it is imperative that we also ensure that services for mothers and their children are available. This week, I had the opportunity to visit the Cline Center of Fondren, tour its facilities, and speak with the dedicated women who work there. The Right to Life movement needs more than legislation to be successful — it requires a community dedicated to the health and wellbeing of children both before and after they are born. The Cline Center provides important pro-life resources and services to expecting mothers. I'm proud to be a strong proponent for Life in Congress, but without the vital work of people like those at the Cline Center, mothers would be left in the dark when making decisions about their future and the future of their child.
I have supported legislation such as the Defund Planned Parenthood Act, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, and the SAVE Moms and Babies Act. I also helped lead the amicus brief that set forth legal reasoning as to why overturning Roe v. Wade was the right decision. I will continue to work in Congress to ensure that we protect life.
Border Visit
At least 1,000 migrants bombarded our border this weekend in an attempt to cross illegally. Unlike the Biden Administration, Republicans are not ignoring this crisis. Today, I met with border officials and members of the press to discuss the steps that are necessary to secure our border.
In a hearing in McAllen, Texas, today, Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz told my fellow Members of the Committee on Homeland Security and me that the border is not secure. Chief Ortiz's statements contradict previous statements that Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas made in his own testimony before the Committee on Homeland Security. The facts reveal the truth. Our border is not open, and the Biden Administration has done nothing to address the crisis they created.
This is why Republicans plan to release the details of our plan to secure the border in the coming weeks. I will be providing updates as we release the plan, so be sure to stay tuned.
