John,
The Mountain State is at a crossroads.
West Virginia ranks 49th in the country for median household income.
It could use a jolt of economic opportunity.
A new proposal in Charleston to slash the state income tax by 21% would do just that, helping people keep more of their hard-earned money.
Americans for Prosperity activists like Chase are fired up to make this tax cut a reality.
Chase is a new AFP activist and a full-time college student.
He’s knocking on doors (that’s him in the photo below) to encourage constituents to call their state lawmakers in support of the bill.
Chase’s goal? Improve the state’s economic prospects so he can continue to call West Virginia home once he graduates.
Above is just one door knocked out of thousands to help pass this historic tax cut. And it’s part of a nationwide movement to drive better state policy in 35 chapter states across the country.
Just last year, AFP informed dozens of fiscal reforms in over 20 states, including 15 tax reforms. These include Arizona’s historic income tax repeal and Colorado’s second tax cut in as many years.
And these grassroots efforts are complemented by a direct mail campaign hitting targeted citizens in every Senate district, local TV and radio appearances, and patch-through phone banks connecting citizens to key state senators.
AFP also hosted a “Telephone Town Hall” with Gov. Jim Justice, attended by nearly 7,000 hard-working West Virginians.
The momentum for tax and spending reform is building nationwide.
AFP is mobilizing grassroots leaders across the country to persuade their lawmakers to pass similar reforms in states like Ohio, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
You might remember that AFP’s goal is to stop the greatest threats in Washington, D.C. and pass good legislation in the states that builds momentum for big federal reforms in 2025 ([link removed] ) .
Passing fiscal reforms in the states is a crucial component of the strategy to unleash economic opportunity for all Americans.
Thank you for your ongoing support and activism.
Best,
—Emily
